The Ultimate Pepperoni Pizza Sloppy Joes

This is what happens when two beloved classics crash into each other in the most delicious way possible. These Pepperoni Pizza Sloppy Joes bring together everything you love about cheesy, saucy pepperoni pizza and the comforting, messy goodness of a sloppy joe—all stacked into a warm bun. It’s fast, fun, and packed with flavor. Perfect for weeknights, game nights, or any time the craving hits.

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup mini pepperoni slices
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted, optional)

Preparation:

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion and bell pepper. Use a spatula to break the beef apart as it cooks. Once fully browned and no longer pink, drain the excess grease to keep things from getting greasy.

Next, stir in the pizza sauce and Italian seasoning. Mix everything well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes so the flavors can come together and deepen.

Now toss in the mini pepperoni slices. Stir them into the mix and cook for another 2 minutes, just enough to get them warm and infused into the sauce.

Once your filling is ready, spoon a generous amount onto the bottom half of each bun. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the hot mixture so it starts to melt right away. Top with the other half of the bun and serve while it’s still warm and cheesy.

Pro Tips:

  • Toast those buns for extra texture and to prevent sogginess.
  • Want it spicy? Add crushed red pepper or diced jalapeños into the mix.
  • Extra cheese? Of course. Try a mix of mozzarella and provolone or even a sprinkle of Parmesan.
  • Serving suggestion: Fries, pickles, or a simple side salad balance it out beautifully.

Make-Ahead Option:

The filling stores great! You can make it up to 3 days in advance—just reheat it when you’re ready, pile it on your buns, and you’ve got a crowd-pleasing, low-effort dinner in minutes.
